colour throwdown.

Here's the new challenge at Colour Throwdown.

I didn't have any black and white striped paper, so used music paper instead.
I punched 3 flowers and attached them on the blue strip.
As I was making this my friend rang to say her husband's brother died. I'm now using it as a sympathy card for them. They are both musical so it suited the purpose.

Wednesday 27 May 2020

Seize the birthday and others.

Seize the birthday wants tropical. I found some flamingo paper and added some flowers for a tropical feel.
Hope you like it!

Next I have a card for Unstampabelles where I used to be on their DT.
This month's challenge is Wind and wings with blue and white predominately.
I'm currently using a sheet of sea related theme paper.
I used the seagull and sentiment from there plus the strip along the bottom.
It is a get well card for a male friend.
I used fine black pen to represent the wind blowing in the clouds.

Then,at the library challenge I used a fairy to represent tinker belle for their Peter Pan challenge.

The sentiment says Friends are kisses blown to us by angels.

Crafting happiness /double trouble.

At Crafting happiness challenge they have an anything goes with red challenge.
At Double Trouble they ask for Kraft plus a bag plus red.

I've combined all this on a layout. I'm using Kraft as my background plus a red and white chevron paper bag. I think that just about qualifies me for both.

I used the last 3 toadstools from FWAB plus a doiley cut into 3 pieces.
The dots are done with white acrylic paint.

Lasting memories Week 4.

LM #499 - 3 Things -

Geometric or Icon print patterned papers
Circles
At least 3 photos

Here's the next challenge at Lasting Memories.

I chose a purple and apricot paper featuring stars. (I thought I'd never use that!)
Next I misted 3 circles using a purple mist and a circle template.
I cut 3 vellum circles and matted my photos in matching mauve paper.

After arranging photos I added strip journal words under photos and at top of circles.
I added a row of ric rac across the bottom too. I found a die cut ice cream cone and "Lovely".
The photos are from our holiday in Italy.

No idea why the white box but it might be because I copied and pasted the 3 criteria.

Cardz4guys and TGIF

At Cardz4guyz there is a sketch

I discovered some 7 dots elemental stickers with a sea theme. "destination unknown"
I mounted one of the round bigger stickers on navy card and cut around to form a border.
Next to that I added a smaller whale sticker.

My sentiment is also a sticker and says Work like a captain, play like a pirate.
I outlined the whale and sentiment in black pen so they stood out more.

******************************

I'm using the same background paper on this next card for TGIF.

This time I went BOLD!!!!!

I inked the paper with blue(cyan) ink.
Down the side I put a strip of arrows pointing up.
Then I used a journal card from my scrapbooking stash

There's no mistaking the purpose of this card :)

Just us girls

At Just us girls they have this photo inspiration.

I managed to find some Ruby Rock-it red paper featuring the wavy lines and leaf shapes.
Using that as my background, I then cut a template for the individual "leaves" from a scrap piece.
I cut 3 navy and 2 gold, shapes then added them on my card.
Finally I cut a larger leaf shape and added my sentiment. The photo reminds me of a birthday gathering,so I made it a birthday card.
NB The black marks on the background paper are printed on it to give it an "aged" look.

Saturday 23 May 2020

The card concept.

The card concept wants Red white and blue.
I decided to make a baby card from a tall card in landscape form.
I added quite a few embellishments including 2 tags, twine and a jar label.

As it is a baby card I opted for pale blue rather than navy or royal blue.

Li'l Red wagon and Cute card Thursday

At Li'l red wagon they want us to recycle..
I've reused packaging on this. (The paler spotted paper is from a tissue box.)

The cute sheep are from Jolee's boutique.
Also at Cute card Thursday they want critters.

At Allsorts challenge they wanted gingham, stripes or dots.
Well here's the dots!

Lasting Memories

After spending a few days making cards, I've come back to layouts again.
This one is for Lasting memories

This week's challenge is:

LM #498 - 3 Things -
Plaids/checks/ginghams patterned paper
Hearts (can be a paper or an embellishment)
Tag(s)

I started with the centre photo and the smaller piece of patterned paper.
Next I found the co-ordinating 12x12 piece of checked paper.
I matted the photo on different coloured scraps that harmonise with the colours in the photo.
Next I discovered a smaller photo I had of the building, so made that into a tag.
The other tag was made using a picture on some patterned paper of ladies in that Era.
Both tags and the centre photo have a gold heart brad at the top.

Moving along with the times and Stick it down cards

At Moving along with the times they have asked for flowers.
I could have gone totally overboard but made a subdued card using a tag which features flowers.
As I'm using up smaller scraps, the tag seemed a good idea.

At Stick it Down they have this card sketch

I've adapted it to suit my design.
Firstly the sentiment: A pinch to grow an inch.
I had to look it up but in some countries you pinch the birthday person and say "A pinch to grow an inch" meaning they will grow in the next year.
I used the idea of growing and found a giraffe.
It overlays the circle. I can picture this being given to a small child.

This is also added at 2 crafty critter crazies

Joy of sets ,Reverse confetti and cupcake inspiration.

At Joy of Sets here is the tic tac toe challenge

I've gone across the top line and made a birthday card for an 8 year old.

I've also entered it at Reverse Confetti challenge
                                                               ******************
Using the same background paper I made this card featuring a bicycle for Cupcake inspirations

As you like it challenge

At As you like it challenge they want Purple plus one other colour.
I've chosen cream because I always feel these 2 colours look nice together.

Wednesday 20 May 2020

Case this sketch! and others.

At Case this sketch this is the current one.

I found one sheet of green card, so have used it on this card as my background.
The strip across and the pink oval are diecuts.
I used a black and white offcut as my background for the cream number.
Finally, I added 2 tiny brads.

I also entered it at Cute card Thursday
                                    *********************************
Next, Is Sweet sketch Wednesday where they have 2 sketches to choose from.
I'm choosing Sketch #183.

I'm also adding this on Through the purple haze

I had a set of stickers for little boys, I think from Bo Bunny, so used some of those on here.

Tuesday 19 May 2020

Crafty Calendar challenge.

More cards this morning.
My first is for Crafty Calendar challenge where the theme is black and white.
I used 4 offcuts plus some sticker numbers from an October Afternoon set of Alphas, now almost used up.

Monday 18 May 2020

Some male cards

At Cardz4guyz they want a vintage card.

I started with a plain piece of Kraft cardstock and inked it with vintage paper distress ink.
Next I found scraps of papers featuring the gold rushes in 1851, plus some other with printing and another with a train. I cut these to size and arranged them on my card with the gold nugget being a feature.
I have a male friend who lives in Ballarat where gold was discovered in 1851,starting the gold rush. This will be perfect for his birthday! My sentiment says "so many candles, so little cake".

My next is for The Male Room where the theme is in the garden.
You can't go wrong with a thank you card.
I kept it simple but it has a garden look about it.

Here's 2 more I made just for fun.

With Mother's Day and Easter being no good for card sales this year, I'm now doing Father's Day.

Saturday 16 May 2020

Alphabet Challenge

At Alphabet challenge this week they asked for checks.

I searched through my bag of scraps and came up with this card, which features 2 different checked papers.

Mystical cyber crop.

Mystical scrapbooks has a cyber crop this weekend.

The first is a sketch challenge and the theme is food.

I used another citrus paper (my last) to do the right hand page of this sketch.
There are only 2 photos so the other space contains a lemon and orange wedge.
I made the lemon by using a circle then drawing segments and I used full stops from my alphas to be my pips.
The vine is from Flourish with a bling and looked good beside the photo of lemons on a tree.
I even used a stamp from the set I included in my kit. The stamp says "Love it".

Next there is a mood board

Initially, I was inspired by the colours in the unicorns, plus the swirly effect.
I used metallic shades paint by Li'l Davis as my background, then misted with purple in 2 areas.
The cannoli picture led to the rolled paper on the right hand side.
Then the layered cake with flowers on top helped me with matting using berry colours.
I found flowers in mauve, white and red so added those top left. There is also a smaller vine from the FWAB in the last layout.

Finally I added my title. The W is crooked but can't straighten it as the chipboard alpha is separating and will remain stuck on the paper. I also added a small journalling card.

Lasting Memories challenge

LM #497 - 3 Things
Striped patterned paper
Stars (can be a paper or an embellishment)
Washi Tape (if you don't have washi tape you can use ribbon or paper strips)

I've started working on the "lemon" aspect of my Counterfeit Kit.
I used the busy citrus fruit paper for this layout and borrowed my title from Tina, who did a similar layout about her husband.

I used a striped green paper strip down the left hand side.
I have used 3 purple star brads.
The yellow washi tape with flowers goes down next to the title and across the bottom of my layout.

I have no idea why there are white patches on this post.

Paper Issues Hexagons and Freshly made sketches.

One of the challenges this month at Paper Issues group on Facebook was to use hexagons across the page.
I had a packet of Jillybean soup hexagon stickers in my kit so decided to use them all.

40 years ago I went to Hawaii with a friend, whom I still see.
One of our outings was to the Top of Waikiki restaurant which revolves, so you can see the views.
Here's a link with lots of photos if you're interested. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g60982-d433919-Reviews-Top_of_Waikiki-Honolulu_Oahu_Hawaii.html

I started with another sheet of pineapple paper.
I matted my photos on a matching paper.
Carefully placing the hexagons around the photos I managed top almost reach across the page diagonally.
I placed my title over the bottom left area and used 2 die cuts around my photos. The yellow face luckily covered a lady's backside. :)

Lastly, I added a blue square brad.

  *****************************************************************************

At Freshly Made sketches they have this sketch

I decided to use an offcut of the pineapple paper to make a card.
Everything on this card is from my Counterfeit kit.

I've also entered this at Cute card Thursday where they want birthday cards

***************************************************************************
Seize the birthday wants monochromatic cards.
I've used the aqua colour again with more small offcuts from my kit.
The dirty mark near the brad is on my scanner, I need to buy some metholated spirits to clean it.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1

We are asked to do a layout about "Oh Happy day! "
I've used this sketch from Paper Issues to create it.

I've used mainly the lime colours from my kit (they're more aqua really).
My photo is taken from the top of the Empire State Building, which has been on my bucket list since I was a little girl. Dad went up there in 1959 and never stopped talking about it.

As I stood up there looking down at various buildings, it suddenly hit me...I'm really here! I've fulfilled the dream.

I don't know the name of that building with the copper roof but someone said it was one of the big hotels. Perhaps one of you American people can tell me.
Research tells me it is 40 Wall st or the Trump building. (ugh!)

Challenge yourself and lets get sketchy

I'm taking a break from my kit for this layout.
I'm combining 2 challenges Challenge Yourself and Let's get sketchy.

The theme is Mom or as we say in Australia, Mum.
The 2 colours prominent in the photo were black and purply-pinks.

Searching through my stash I found an older paper that I only ever intended as layering but it works on this modern funky style layout.
I chose a darker purple paper as my strip across in similar tones, then found a pale mauve which worked as my matting layer.
The gingham ribbon was better than plain black ribbon and my black bow went well with it. I added 2 chipboard small tags ,a 7 gypsies circle that says "home" plus a die cut saying hey girl.

I hope you like it!

Sunday 10 May 2020

Scrap our stash

My next layout is for Scrap our stash.
There is also a BLING challenge at the scraproom. I have combined these 2.

I'm starting with an October afternoon "5 & dime "paper from my stash.
There are scraps from other papers that I used as background.

B=bling flourish, butterflies
L=large alphas
I=Ink around wooden speech bubble
N=nephew
G=garland

The wood veneer is holding the word "little" and is a speech bubble shape
The brad is top left and is a red heart with arrow.
The chipboard is the letter T in cute. I used a negative outline and cut it to size.

May Jumpstart challenge

At The Scraproom group they had a May jumpstart challenge.

Here's my finished layout.

I used 2 pineapple papers from my Counterfeit kit plus a couple of other offcuts to construct the layering on this  this layout.

One thing I recycled on this layout was the typed paper for tabs top left and bottom right. It is an old cassette cover where my sister typed the names of the songs. I recently threw many away and thought it might be useful, it was.

Thursday 7 May 2020

Freaky fast formula plus another

This layout is for the Freaky Fast Formula challenge on the scraproom group on Facebook.
I used older brown shades for the sepia photo, some were in my Counterfeit kit for this month.
I also added some tiny Prima flowers and brads plus some bone coloured ribbon.
I like how the outfit on the dressmaking paper matches Louisa's hat.

When I was in Arizona 3 years ago I asked Maggie could we go to Walmart as we don't have it in Australia. So off we went. We didn't see any weirdos much to my disappointment.
My daughter joked that maybe I was the weirdo!!
I used some of the aqua coloured papers plus flowers on this layout.

In hindsight I think the white alphas need inking so I'm using a pale pink just to highlight them slightly.
