Colour Throwdown and Flutterby Wednesday

I've managed to tick 2 boxes with this cars. Firstly on Colour Throwdown CTD 227, the criteria is this
and on Flutterby Wednesday it is free choice so long as there is a butterfly or fairy. I've used Kaisercraft "Sweet nothings" range, plus some Websters Pages tiny birds and pinecone ink.

What to do with the leftovers.

Today I tried to think of creative ways to lessen the pile of scraps on my desk.I made this card using most of what is left from my counterfeit Kits layouts and cards.
I've had fun on there this month doing a total of 15 items to upload. It teaches you to think creatively with a limited amount of items and makes you use those items on your layouts and cards. If you haven't tried Counterfeit Kits go for it!!!!

ANNOUNCING ANOTHER D.T.

http://childsplaychallenges.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/announcing-our-newest-cpc-designers.html
I am proud to announce I have been chosen for the Design Team on Childsplay challenges. The entry challenge was to use something to link to a child's Xylophone so I went with a layout of Erica deciding which career path to choose featuring rainbow background .I chalked it in different colours diagonally, then added matching tabs in the various colours.(see the above link). It will be fun on this DT I'm sure.Feel free to join in the challenges!

Colouring at Use your stuff

The challenge at Use your stuff is to use colouring. I had scraps of Kaisercraft's fine and sunny range plus the co-ordinating stamps .I've made a card using a stamped pennant (coloured in)then adhered with ribbon to the front of the card.

Another freakin scrapping challenge

Another Freaking scrapping challenge had a sketch with 8 photos. I straight away thought of my wedding proofs since they are the correct size for this. This is my interpretation.I kept it neat and tidy as it was my wedding photos.I've mounted the 8 photos on white card then used a chipboard filmstrip over 4 of the photos of Chris and I.The ones with Ann are next to the filmstrip. These 2 are like peas in a pod,so similar in temperament and outlook. I used rub-ons of a chandelleir(Well they are formal photos)and locks and keys.

Another card- using October Afternoon Midway range.

On examining the packaging from October Afternoon's midway range,I realised That a card can be made.So I folded the card in half, covered it in 2 scraps of patterned paper, front and back. I've added a felt arrow plus "Hello friend" sentiment and a tin pin featuring a Groucho Marx face all from October Afternoon's midway collection. That's what is called economy!!!! I've entered it in "Here come the Boys" card challenge site.

Feeling Sketchy for your challenge...

http://feeling-sketchy.blogspot.com.au/ Over at Feeling Sketchy there is a new challenge featuring this sketch
We would love you to join in using this sketch as your stimulus. Here's my take on it....something happened to the top of that oval....funny how you don't notice until it is published.

Flutterby Wednesday using Counterfeit kit items

I've nearly used all my Counterfeit kit items now, except for washi tape, brads and one sheet of paper. This is the sketch for Flutterby Wednesday
and here's my interpretation featuring a cute butterfly in the centre.

Case this sketch with a sigh.

Here is this week's sketch
And here is my interpretation of it.I've used imaginisce paper with inked chipboard hearts. I thought "sigh" could be to say sorry or because someone was so much in love.

Csi meets Australian literature.

As a children's librarian, literature is important to me.One of my favourites from childhood is "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie". I bought this card a few years ago especially for the pictures and knowing it might "come in handy". It has. CSI asked for flowers/leaves/trees and teacups. It also had to be scraplifted from an earlier challenge as it is CSI's birthday. I've used a photo of banksia taken in the Royal National Park near Sydney. It is the prince of the Australian natives. The card was useful for my illustration/embellishments,including the teacups hanging from the shelf on top right.

Counterfeit Kits pinterest trends challenge

Counterfeit kits has been exploring trends on Pinterest.Three of the trends were multiple banners, using pinking shears and looking at items in different ways. I've used the first two on here and the 3rd one is a bit more subtle. This range of papers are birthday papers, but the quote suited Christopher's love of football too.The pennants went with those seen at a football game and the words celebrate and fun and games also applied. So I've used these out of context if you like. The orange frame is equal at the bottom edge as well.My scanner chopped it off.

Colour throwdown CTD226

The colour pallette is this
and after looking at them for some time,I applied the scrapbookers addage...TURN OVER AND SEE WHAT IS ON THE BACK. I found this
So I decided to use one of those smaller pieces as the centre of my card and here it is
The centres of the background daisies are orange,so I've carefully coloured them using green gel pen.

Purple pumpkin sketch with a touch of Ombre

Here is the sketch for Purple pumpkin this month and below is my take on it.The American crafts paper with houses all over it was bright so I've used a Ruby Rockit circle then cardstock as my mats. The layout features 2 palaces we saw whilst on the hop-on hop off bus around London. The only Purple Pumpkin thing I had was the twine.I've looped it around trying to create a vine with flowers. This was extremely difficult as it had been through the Xyron to make it sticky. I've also used 2 Websters buttons and some lace dyed in different shades using walnut ink.The ombre effect is for Counterfeit Kits.It is not another challenge but a technique we're asked to try out.

White on white card

The challenge at Flutterby Wednesdays was to use White on White.I started by putting my card through swiss dots on my cuttlebug. Then I added a paper doiley. The lace along the bottom came off my sister's wedding dress.(She will receive this card later this year). The chipboard umbrella is from Scrapmatts.I tied an organza ribbon around the handle and added a butterfly. Finally the sentiment is a rubon. I've also added this to http://papercraftstar.blogspot.co.uk/ as well.

Roman Wall in York at Stuck?!

Stuck?! sketches 2nd sketch for January looks like this
And here is my interpretation

Case this sketch

Here is the design on Case this sketch and here is my card.A friend's daughter has qualified as a fashion designer.

"Oh my papa" at Feeling sketchy

Check out the challenge at "feeling sketchy".The design is simple and elegant.I made this one to sell but found myself singing "oh my papa" by Eddie Fisher.I love the turquoise tones on this. Here's the sketch and link. http://feeling-sketchy.blogspot.com.au/
And the best part is you can win a $25 voucher from "Scrap therapy"

Sketches with a twist in the garden

The January challenge at Sketches with a twist was to use chevrons on this sketch
I've had these large flowers from Kaisercraft "Sweet magnolia" for a while,so decided to use them as my background circles on here.I've used chevron washi tape in 2 different colours as my connectors. Then I added my photo, title and finished with a pleated flower in co-ordinating paper to the background.
Just another reminder on here about the DT search on Archiscraps which closes on 31st JAnuary see http://archiscraps.blogspot.com for details. Here is the stimulus picture. And my extra criteria is water.

A new start at Orange Paperie.

The wheels on this layout have made me sing that John Farnham song "Keep the pressure down" because it starts "put the wheels in motion".....
I called my layout new start. It is for the challenge at Orange paperie, where the theme is new beginnings. It celebrates the fact that swimming keeps me healthy and my weight in check. It is something I can do that doesn't aggravate my arthritis. I've used gesso through the cogs then torn paper, sewing, strips of paper,Webster's buttons & twine and a tag.The gold lettering is rubons.

Castello fountain at the color room

Here's the palette for the latest challenge at the color room. I've used more of my counterfeit kit items to compile this layout. The yummy vines are by flourish with a bling. I had fun adding layers and embellishments to this one.
By the way, I do use paragraphs when I type descriptions but blogger seems to bunch up all the writing together. It annoys me but I can't work out how to fix it.

Just to keep me occupied in the heat

This is an old tram inside a club in Canberra.I've scrapped it for "Soul Scrappers" but wanted to share it on here as well.Several DT applications recently have asked for layouts evocative of my style.Well this is probably a good example.I love vintage, misting, layering but not too much and embellishments but not too many. Also for Counterfeit Kits I've made another card loosely based on the card sketch and involving recycled Trash and treasure. The musical sheet was printed with bubble wrap, the bone patterned paper with a comb dipped in paint and the ribbon was around a cake of soap I received for Christmas.

Whisper at Bird is the Word

I went monotone with this layout for Bird is the word. The word we are asked to use is whisper. I often talk to Mum especially at bedtime, even though she died nearly 5 months ago. I still miss her dreadfully. We thought so alike. I've used Kaisercraft Love notes background paper plus gesso through a chevron mask. The Twiddlybits chipboard was painted with metallic opal paint. There is a pocket containing hidden journalling and a variety of alphas.I underlined WHISPER as it is the feature word.

January 2013 single sketch at Counterfeit KIts

I love a good sketch. Counterfeit Kits had this one which appealed to me.
and here's my interpretation

Card at Colour Throwdown

Colour throwdown is a cardsite where they give you a palette of colours to make a card. This week's palette was this
and here is the link to their site http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com.au/ Here is my card using some more of my Counterfeit Kit items. The pink cherish circle is a cloth badge and the circular segment underneath it is a pocket where a gift card could be inserted.I used some scraps of wedding dress lace on the RHS.

Counterfeit Kits card sketch

Counterfeit Kits has 3 sketches to challenge us.I've chosen the card sketch from Dec.2012 Page maps. I've used 3 papers from "Save the date" range, plus the sentiment is cut from the strip at the bottom. To that I've added a Scrapmatts chipboard label and added ribbon plus October Afternoon Midway designer brads.

Chalking at Artastic

I bought chalks specially for scrapbooking when I first started.I must admit I don't use them much. This layout has a strip of vellum down the left hand side. The hearts have been coloured on the back with chalks.I oversprayed the chalk with hairspray to stop it smudging. The photo is of my daughter at 8 months and her cousin aged 12.
and here is the stimulus picture featuring Jenny Mc Cracken

Scrapfit and card makin'mama

This is what I started with. The challenge at scrapfit is to create a project with an embellishment having more than 4 layers. And here is my final card
I've used Kaisers Technologic collection robot and edge stripping. The background paper is the reverse side of the robot paper. I used the yellow strip then added a scalloped border to the edge.On top of that I added fine purple ribbon. The robot was then added to sit just on the edge of the ribbon and in the centre of the robot I added a small silver shape. That makes 5 layers in my counting. I have then echoed the silver by using the oval shape and put a co-ordinating sentiment, also oval in the centre. Cardmakingmamas is asking for free design so I have added it there as well.

A beachy boy or girl card

Here's a card I've just made for no reason in particular. When I'm out selling Usborne Books,(my paying job), I take cards and people often buy them to go with a book they're buying for a gift.I thought this one would be great for a child's birthday or someone going on holidays.

Feeling sketchy's challenge #44 and my first.

Do you like making cards? I do and here's this week's sketch at Feeling sketchy I find cards are a great way to use up embellies and scraps of paper that otherwise would be too small for layouts. Here's my interpretation.
Why not "have a go"? You've got to be in it to win it!

Use your stuff

Here's a picture or two of me looking like a whale in distress. LOL I've been keeping fit by swimming and on this particular day swam across a river while someone took photos. The chipboard is the packaging or negative from some circle chipboard I received. It seemed a shame to waste it so I thought "outside the circle" so to speak.I chopped off one corner to put the word moments in.I've made this for "Use your stuff"

CSI #54

Remember altered CDs? I've made one for this challenge on CSI Here is a close-up of it.
You can see lots of things on there including the swing tag from Kaisercraft's pack your bags collection. The buttons are WEbsters, the cute table and chairs are from Jenni B.I've also used a 7 gypsies Wanted ticket. This is the link to CSI if you want to join in. http://csicolorstoriesinspiration.ning.com/ and here's the pallette upon which this layout is based. There's a sketch too so you can't go wrong!
