Alphabet challenge and The paper players

The Alphabet challenge wants us to use Kraft as a card.

I started with a square card then misted through a stencil, making a brick wall. Next I painted a chipboard bicycle with yellow. My sentiment is a dymo label.

Also at The Paper players  there is this sketch

I've made another Thank You card and find they are always useful.

I've gone with a mushroom theme.

Lasting memories stripes, stars and enamel dots

This is my next layout for Lasting memories where we are asked to feature stripes, stars and enamel dots (or in my case red rhinestones ). I ran out of enamel dots earlier today.

I've used diagonal green striped paper behing my photos and red stars on the edges of the layout plus a circle made from red rhinestones. It is 2 photos of the Grand Canyon which was so deep you needed a zoom lens to see the bottom!

At Aud Sentiments they want a summer card with a sentiment.

I used a pineapple picture that I had plus a wood veneer sun. There is also the sentiment "sunkissed". I thought this might be a bon voyage for someone going to tropical climes, like Hawaii .

Sketches in Thyme plus Artastic "boy" layout

I had this photo from my trip to Parkes. It qualifies as a boy (astronaut).

I'm combining it with 2 photos from "the dish" radio telescope at Parkes to do a space themed layout.

The criteria for Artastic is this....

CHALLENGE THREE – THIS or THAT CHALLENGE

BOY themed or GIRL themed
BLUE tones or PINK tones
BLING or BRADS
FLOWERS or CHIPBOARD
TWINE or WASHI
PAINT or INK
I've used blue,bling,chipboard (circle),washi and paint.
Oh Mr Spaceman is my title, based on an old song. Here's my layout.

Artastic sketch challenge

At Artastic's cyber crop there was also a sketch challenge featuring the above.

I'm still scrapping my Country towns trip,so here's another layout. This time it is Parkes.

My theme is Parkes' past and feature a statue of Henry Parkes plus the war memorial.

Artastic recipe challenge.

At Artastic they're having a recipe challenge. It was to use 3 pattern papers, 2 buttons, arrows and enamel dots.

This was a gold mining town but there's nothing left there now except the poppet head. So no gold left there! My title is a pun.

Cupcake challenges and AAA birthdays.

At Cupcake inspirations  there is a hobbies challenge.

We are asked to choose a hobby and make a card about it.

My cousin and I are both into Geneology. We often go to research our family tree and have found some interesting characters! Her favourite colour is green, so I used scraps of lace plus papers on this card..

It has 2 sentiments because I had them both and wanted to use them. Our research has led to a reunion where memories were exchanged.

Hope you like it!

My next card is for AAA birthdays

I've made a reasonably simple birthday card using spots.

Cards and more cards.

Yesterday was rainy and grey so I kept busy making cards. The first 4 are from one sheet of double sided scrapbooking paper.

Freaky Fast formula

At The Scraproom group there is this freaky fast formula.

This is the last layout for my Cowra album. It was pouring rain so I looked inside the turist information centre where I discovered a hologram display telling about the Cowra Breakout. It runs for about 10 minutes and is cleverly done.

I used browns and blues to match my photo. The 2 brown papers gave it a heritage look.

I also used a good old favourite, pinecone ink to "dirty" up the page slightly.

Double D challenges and Tic Tac Toe

At Double D challenges they want something with wheels.

I still have old pictures that I cut from a picture dictionary. In this case it is a car.

I fussy cut around the car and placed it on my card with the sentiment, "special". It will be going into the Father's Day box. Here in Australia Fathers Day is the first Sunday in September.

*************************************

At Tic Tac Toe they have a grid and  I've chosen the left vertical row

My card features a polka dot background, Turquoise sentiment plus 2 playing cards embellishments. The strip at the bottom is from the reverse side of the patterned paper.

August CKC Challenge #2

Last month I made this layout featuring the Junee Chocolate factory.

I wanted to make a second page as there were more photos of the place and featuring some old vans they had in the yard.

Challenge 2 is to use vertical pennants, so I put them down the middle of this layout. I actually used one on the above layout. The framework around each triangle is actually the negative from these stickers.I overlayed it on the bright pink paper then cut them out.

So here's my layout and note I used matching alphas to the other layout as well.

Wednesday 17 August 2022

Cardz 4 guyz

At cardz 4 guyz they want distress or grunge.

These 2 cards are made using scraps but I used Tim Holtz Distress ink in "old paper" colour which works beautifully to age paper.

Mystical cyber crop #3

Here's the sketch for Challenge #3 at Mystical.

I had a Kaisercraft Heritage paper in my kit and wasn't sure how to attack it ,until I saw this sketch.

I also had green lace and FWAB rhinestone flourish to use.

Here's my layout. I'm very happy with how it turned out. It might have something to do with using my favourite colours.

and some close ups

Mystical sketch cyber crop and Artastic

Here's the sketch at Mystical

and here's the stimulus picture at Artastic

What inspires me about that ?

My first thought was Australian farms and outback areas. Kangaroos, sheep etc.

The wheat overlapping, vertical lines, straw basket (woven) , a picnic , picnic rug (gingham), sunhat, horse, lady.

Method:

I pulled out all my scraps featuring the wheat colouring. I included vellums with one saying "hot summer days".

I tore vellum plus a woven straw piece and the hot summer days vellum to create my bottom border.

I matted my 2 photos on scraps of wheat coloured paper. I made 2 tags using yellow and cream tones and threaded twine through them.

The 2 banners (one cut in half actually) are gingham so hark back to a picnic idea. or maybe a ribbon on a straw hat.

I added blue and red enamel dots on the tags. There's also red and blue on the banners.

Kangaroos are animals so are horses. Both can be seen on Australian farms.

Lasting memories

At Lasting Memories they want geometric pattern paper, circles and stickers.

I'm doing a Christmas flashback here as my sister and I were talking about these photos.

I've used stars and dots on papers plus a circle for the title and gingerbread man stickers.

The photo on the bottom makes us laugh. Dad won a moustache in his Christmas bon bon and was being amusing wearing it. My brother in law looking like the grump he is and my nephew smiling. It made us laugh at the time and often when we see it again as well.

Kraft plus

The challenge at Kraft + is to use hand journalling.

I decided to make a page 2 for the previous layout as I had more photos.

I used the same ric rac plus 4 photos and a soldier cut from a 5th photo.

My handwriting is about how evocative the area was.

So here's the combined 2 pager.

Challenge YOUrself and Sketch 'n'scrap

I'm combining 2 challenges with this layout.

First a sketch from Sketch 'n' scrap August cyber crop on Facebook.

And also Challenge YOUrself has

My topic is the Japanese prisoner of war camp in Cowra NSW, which I visited recently.

Looking back during my visit I reflected on the sadness of war and general loss of life on both sides. It was a sombre visit. In fact I cried while standing near that memorial.

Mum had told me about it and how during World War II, any Japanese soldiers that became prisoners of Australia, were sent there for punishment. Cowra is about 5 hours from Sydney and the camp is set away from the town, so there was no way they could return to their homeland .

The Cowra breakout occurred on 5 August 1944, when 1,104 Japanese prisoners of war attempted to escape from a prisoner of war camp near Cowra, in New South Wales, Australia. It was the largest prison escape of World War II, as well as one of the bloodiest. During the escape and ensuing manhunt, 4 Australian soldiers and 231 Japanese soldiers were killed. The remaining escapees were re-captured and imprisoned.

Sketches in Thyme

The sketch #528 at Sketches in Thyme is this one.

I had another pink paper in my kit so used it on here with a photo of a camellia. I put my photo further to the left so my cross over point was at the right hand side of the photo.

I've used a couple of ribbons and lace on this layout.

I misted with purple and matched in the gingham ribbon.

Sketch 'n' scrap

My next layout is for Sketch 'n'scrap

I'm still doing layouts about Cowra gardens and this one features the fish in the pond. I stood at the end and leaned right over to look at them as they frantically fought over the food.

The 3 papers I used are all from my kit,as are the embellishments. I used the splash splash ribbon as my title.

I put my 2 photos one on top of the other instead of side by side but otherwise followed the sketch closely.

Paper Issues Challenge # 7

When I set out on my Country Town trip I didn't realise I was following in the footsteps of John Oxley the explorer. The rivers of NSW were discovered separately then Oxley, among others, found that they all met up.

At Cowra I "accidentally found the river" while looking for a parking spot. I crossed over a bridge and turned left down under the bridge and saw not a railway line as I thought, but a big river. I just had to take a couple of photos. This was a Primary School history moment.

We are asked to scraplift this layout.

The only vertical striped paper I had in my kit was the wood look one. The green paper also has stripes if you look hard.

The other link to the original is the yellow matting paper and tilted journal cards.
