Farmquest challenge blog and Li'l red wagon

I've just discovered a new challenge blog all to do with Farms.

This time at Farmquest  they want barns or a weathervane or a windmill.

After looking through my diecuts I found a barn and remembered I had been to a farm in Western Australia back in 2013.

It sold milk and ice creams.

We ate ice creams and looked around the outside. They has large fiberglass cows that we patted. (lol).

Here's my layout

Also at Li'l red wagon they want stitching and it is ok to submit a scrapbooking layout.Keeping with the cow theme I made this layout named Deja Moo.

The town where the (fiberglass )cows are is Cowarump in the Margaret River area of Western Australia.
I have sewn on here plus used washi tape and buttons with a black, white and red theme to match the photo.

Allsorts challenge

At Allsorts challenge they want bugs.

I had a couple of large colourful dragonfly die cuts and here's the chance to use them up!

The sentiment says hope and the card is for a person with cancer.

Cardz4guyz

It's time to make a few cards from offcuts before a new month begins.

This card is for Cardz4guyz where they want us to recycle something.

This features a cream panel made from cutting up a manilla folder. My father had quite a stack of them which have been used to make cards for charity. This was one of the smaller offcuts.

Lasting Memories -Hot or cold.

I went on an Alaskan cruise in 2014. We saw several cold areas including Glacier Bay,where we watched glaciers calving (bits falling off the edge). It involved us being up on deck of the ship to get the best photos. It was freezing.

I've used woodgrain to match the seat in the photo. My other pieces are neutral, including sheet music and netting.I added some blobs of paint to look like ice or snow.

This is for Lasting Memories where they wanted opposites COLD in my case. You don't get much colder than Alaska.

Sketch 'n' scrap card challenge #2

I've made another card this morning for a different sketch at sketch 'n' scrap.

This is for challenge #4

I'm using tall cards so it looks slightly different but design is there.

This is my first Christmas card for the year....many more to come no doubt.

Sketch 'n' scrap card challenge

While I had the pinks out I also made this card using hot pink corrugated cardboard as my background.

The strips were offcuts from scrapbooking papers and the die cuts seemed to suit-a book and an envelope. It is for a librarian friend's birthday.

Sketch n scrap layout challenge

I had a layout half finished on my desk so amended it to fit this challenge. It is for Sketch 'n'scrap.

I used all pink tones with a touch of mauve as it is a fun layout so I could go colourful!

The alphas are even colourful and my windmill is a touch of whimsy.(Think celebrations/yipee )

Cut it up.

At Cut it up there is a summer themed challenge.

I had some leafy paper here that reminds me of tropical holidays. Here in Australia we head North to tropical places such as Fiji, Vanuatu or Cook Islands. Another favourite of mine is northern Queensland where there is a butterfly farm hidden in amongst the jungle.

My card has 2 die cuts , the green square and the butterfly.

Mystical Cyber crop weekend.

This weekend there is a cyber crop at Mystical scrapbooking on Facebook.

Louise's challenge is to use the following.

patterned paper,fussy cut,ephemera,acrylic paint,doily.

I took a different approach and scrapped 2 photos from a weekend at my daughter's place.

We were in the back yard having a cuppa and I found she has a skull ornament on her back table. I picked it up and recited the well known quote from Shakespeare. She studied Hamlet, both at school and University.

I cut the large flower from patterned paper I've had for 15 years, waiting for the right layout. I used black paint and a white doiley .My ephemera was the king from a playing card (with sword). It seemed appropriate.

It isn't your normal "pretty" layout but it suits the photos.

Killing that kit. Cards for The sisterhood of crafters.

This was all I had left from my July Counterfeit kit.

I made a card using 2 butterflies die cuts and some fibrous "ribbon" for The sisterhood of crafters.

My grand niece turns 17 soon so it will be for her birthday.

My second card used more scraps, plus a small kit I was given containing a die cut dog house, plus stickers to go with it.

This will be a father's day card saying "From the dogs", however at this stage ,I left the sentiment blank in case a birthday comes up.

That's my kit completely done!

2 more layouts at White with One.

The first of these is for White with one where we had to incorporate Fire + Family +fun.

I had no actual photos of family at this event but we went to a Chinese Restaurant during Chinese New Year. Out came a long dragon who weaved between the tables and "breathed fire" (pretending) right at us. It made us laugh and was exciting.

I've used the 2 photos I had and by using 2 masks and yellow paint, I created the "fire". I cut around the fire with my knife and overlapped it on the second photo.

This also answers the criteria at Mystical scrapbook this weekend.Donna's challenge is to use stencils.

                                                        ****************************

Also at White with One is their July challenge. We are asked to use neutral palette and this board as inspiration.

I was inspired by the lace bedspread and the coffee colours. I had this lovely lace paper which was perfect. The photo is from my travels around Europe, I think it was at a monastery /abbey we went to and carved into a pew.

There is white on the background paper and on the layered matting. It also gave me a chance to use a chipboard ampersand I had plus the arrow paperclip.

Sketches in Thyme

This is the second sketch for Sketches in Thyme

I had fun doing this one and used the remaining papers from my Counterfeit Kit.

The photos are from Cowra Gardens and the soft green works well with them. I had heard about the gardens but hadn't managed to get there until this year. So dream was an appropriate title.

My wood veneer circle and branch add to the mood of this layout.

Challenge #1 CKC -Tickets.

Ticket to ride was the inspiration for challenge #1 at Counterfeit Kit Challenge.

In other words use tickets on your layout.

I had quite a few tickets that I put in my Counterfeit Kit so I used the lot!

I've done this clock face idea before and it works so here it is again. Earlier this month I scrapped a layout about going to an Island Feast on Norfolk Island. This is page 2 for that.

Sketch 'n' scrap

Sketch 'n'scrap on facebook has this sketch.

For my interpretation I have used all kit items and I'm happy how it turned out.

I cut the large flower in half and the smaller flower also. This enabled me to put both halves in various places on my layout. Top left I added a chipboard daisy as well.

In Cowra there was a prisoner of war camp during ww2. Those who died there ,were buried in a Japanese cemetery ,specially built.

This is what this layout is about.

Less is best.

Another paper from my kit was this MME flocked paper named Black Finch. I think it was expensive so I didn't want to ruin it. I matted my photo on spotted acetate and ran some washi tape underneath as my title. The photo does the work on here.

Kraft plus and Challenge YOUrself

I've made this layout for Kraft plus  on Facebook.

They want generational family layouts

and at Challenge YOUrself the theme is "We are family"

I'm combining the 2 this month with a vintage photo.

I've used a photo of my grandfather Roy with Mum and my sister and I.  (Taken about 1961.)

The Kraft background is from Bella and is called quad.

I followed on from the square idea and used 2 frames I had in my kit plus a Kraft ticket and 2 smaller rectangles that toned.

I added a chipboard title painted pink under the photo plus several navy bows.. There are 3 small pennant shaped stickers from my kit that say Love and Family, also in pink and navy.My background was created with white acrylic paint and a Kaisercraft stamp, also rectangular.

Paper Issues -sketch a day X 3

 First there was this one

Then there's this one which I'm really happy with.

And also this hexagon crazy one. I used Jillybeen soup hexies that I have been hoarding.
The empty outline was used to ink through to soften the layout.

3 more layouts done for my Norfolk Island album.

The male room and Cardz 4 guyz.

I'm waiting on a tradesman so thought I'd make some cards.

My first is for The Male Room where monochrome is called for.

I rather like black and white and this background paper was in my kit. It suited this challenge.

The large black circle is a beer coaster and the square is packaging from Bella bling..I added washi tape for my sentiment and a scrap of gingham paper.

The card could be for either male or female.

And at Cardz4guyz  the theme is summer.

I've made a card about the beach for a friend's son who loves surfing.. I tore vellum to create the waves and used a couple of wood veneer starfish./ My sentiment says "Make waves"

Paper Issues- sketch a day

Each day during July, Paper Issues is giving us a sketch.

Here's one I chose to do today

I've adapted it to suit my 3 photos but the essence of it is there.

I misted over a chicken wire mask to create the hexagons then used ribbons for my side strips. I added a stamp with trees as my corner feature instead of flowers.

Mystical black framing challenge

Julie set us a challenge to use black frames around items on our layout.

This is Norfolk Island Cemetery and my title card is tongue in cheek. The night before we did a ghost tour of the cemetery with one of the "ghosts' telling us stories. I matted in black plus used a tassel and a black shaped journal tag. I need to buy a new white ink pen for my journalling.

Sketches in Thyme-Guest Designer

After winning a challenge, I was featured this month at Sketches in Thyme.

The sketch allows for a few photos to be used, so I used 4 of Canowindra where I stopped for petrol on my Country Town trip. I didn't have long to look around but it was a step back in time for me. The buildings are all 1930's or earlier.

Enter the challenge before the end of the month and you might be the next designer.

Scrap room -Freaky Fast Formula

I used this formula to cut into some more kit papers and create another layout.
While we were on Norfolk Island the took us up to Captain Cook monument where we had a cooked breakfast. The view from there is spectacular and we enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers.
On my layout I have used a set of alphas that are almost all used. When it came to spell breakfast I realized I had a few letters missing. I've used "invented spelling" and put Breccy.

Lasting Memories -Big and small

Lasting memories want big and small on a layout.

I've used big alphas for the first 3 words and then smaller chipboard letters to follow it.

My subheading is also small.

A dog in a utility is a classic sign that a farmer is in town, hence my title. The dog was pretty friendly actually.

Scrap our stash

 PLUN

The word PLUN originated from Pitcairn Island and means banana.

While we were on Norfolk Island they made plun for us to try.

It is a mixture of green banana, coconut and flour and becomes a slice, a bit like banana bread.

This is for the challenge at Scrap our stash

I've made a layout using the vertical line row 4.

Sticker,twine,colour blue, kraft,mist/ink.

I got into a mess with the mist, so my spotted paper is covering the disaster.

There is Kraft used as my background.

The spotted paper is blue and green and I used a matching tag (with twine).

My stickers are the strip down the left hand side, plus the alphas and green dots from the alpha set.

Scraproom group FLAG challenge

My next page is for the Flag challenge at the scraproom group.

I've used

F= fussy cut car, flourishes on the paper

L= lace border strip

A=Adventure,automobile

G= green washi tapes.

The best part about this is it is wedding paper and I covered up "I do" with the red car.

Scrap the Boys -Numbers

The challenge at Scrap the Boys this month is numbers.

I've used them as an embellishment on this layout of the Bee Keeper at Norfolk Island I used a dark grey paper bella sugar candy which had glittered spots on it's surface. I found matching silver numbers in my stash to decorate my page.

I matted on yellow paper to make the banana stand out and a pale blue cardstock for my other mat.

There are also numbers on the tag on the right below the honey jar.

All the items on this layout are in my Counterfeit kit.
