Color room #151

Here's the palette and here's my layout

Firstly, there is more swirl under the picture my scanner cut it off.
I painted Memory Maze chipboard dark blue and cut it into 3 sections as per the sketch
I used Tattered Angels mist with a Prima mask.(It left the outline :() also misted the tag with twine attached. There is a resin square button backed with matching blue paper and sewn on the layout.
The flowers and lampost are from Little Birdie.
I've used strips of Kaiser Madame boutique and grosgrain ribbon behind the woodgrain photo mat.
Overall I'm not happy with this layout, but as it is done I'm using it.
This is the sketch it is based on.

Happy days out with you for fun

Christina and I have been friends since we were 14.That's 45 years!
She lives in Singapore now and comes to Australia about every 3 months. We always get together for a chat.

I had several scrapbooking items sitting on my desk I wanted to use up.

First I dribbled mists along the LHS.

Next, I used a kraft coloured paper to cover the giant bird on this particular Kraft page.

The job card provided a layer so did the 8x8 "happy days" paper. The border strip & flower matches Christina's top.As does the strip down the LHS from MME. There's a skeleton leaf in there too.

I sewed 3 remaining keys under the photo and added a tag with a rust hole surround and twine as my journaling. Finally, I used raw chippy letters for my title.

This was a layout made from scraps (except for Kraft and mists).

 

 

 

Let's get shabby #46

The colour palette is this

I started with the background paper featuring the 2 grey colours. It is called Delish Royale Black Forest. Next I found the scrap of pink lace featuring apricot sequins and pink bugle beads as well as pearls. It was an offcut and an odd shape but I've managed to hide it.
The photo was matted on book paper and 2 aqua doileys from Typo. Journalling block is pink.
I added apricot washi tape and vintage lace at the top and bottom.
The Memory maze chipboard corner flourish was misted in turquoise, but matches the aqua doileys quite well. Kaisercraft resin blossoms helped to decorate.
Last, but not least I had salmon lace from my mother's  fabric stash from the 1940s. I constructed 3 flowers and added a centre button in a pinky orange.

Here's my layout for stuck sketches May 15th.
I turned the sketch on its side with the strips of washi/paper at the top.
Instead of using beach colours, I took my inspiration from the pine trees that grow beside this beach. My 2 background papers are named "Forest Floor" and "Pine on Kraft.

Featured in the LH corner is Memory Maze corner reeds inked with sage green and gold.
It was such a hot day and the 2 girls were rolling and swimming at the waters edge. What a great way to cool off!

My technique is crackling with a shaker box.

Here's my layout.

If you look at the light globe chipboard you will see there are beads inside it.

 

Here is the instructions

1. Using light globe from Memory Maze paint yellow then allow to dry.
 

2.Paint over the globe with JO SONJA'S DECOR CRACKLE
 

3. Wait a few moments, but while crackle mix is still tacky,add a layer of white paint.
 

4.Dry overnight.
 

5.Turn over light globe to back and adhere acetate sheet to back of globe.(I used one from stamps I had)

6. Cut away residue acetate around edge of globe shape.
 

7. Using magic mount, cut strips and put around circumference of back of globe,leave no gaps.
 

8.Put beads in centre on top of acetate.

9.Find a suitable paper or card to cover the back of your globe. I've used hand made embossed paper also from Memory maze.

10. Remove top yellow paper from your magic mount then carefully place this paper over your shaker box. Ensure all pieces are stuck. I run my thumb around to be doubly sure.

 

11.Flip over the globe to the front. Visually check the placement of backing paper. Trim away excess paper around globe shape.

 12. Your globe is ready to put on your layout.

I've used the same background paper and lace, just varied the placement and her eyes. I think I like the eyes on the right the best!

Going tribal at Another Freaking Scrappy challenge

The 15th May sketch
I started with Sandy Lion paper called tribal. I was initially going to name this "One of his tribe",however he looked so cute I went with "quack!"
One of my mats I cut too big so needed to cut off a corner.
Otherwise it was a fun layout to compose .The No 1 and cutie pie are MME and the canvas branch I left raw to contrast.

Frosted Designs-black,white and one other colour.

 

 

I have chosen black white and silver as my 3 colours for FROSTED DESIGNS.
This photo was of a street artist in Florence, Italy. He was just outside the Uffiso.

I matted my photo in silver then added an antique doiley behind it.
The chipboard "Fleur de Lis" have been inked with white then stamped over the top using a scroll stamp. It is the symbol for Florence.
The background paper is Bella "Amore".

Color Room #150

Here's the palette for the color room.
Now there is one colour I can't like no matter how hard I try and that is ORANGE!!!
I bought these 2 sheets of background paper maybe 5 or 6 years ago and keep hiding them because I don't like them. They say everything has a use so I did it!

The photo is at an angle .The backing mat is a weird shape, but I think it works on here.
As the family photographer, these 2 boys see me coming and either hide or ignore me. I have made my layout about that.
Jonathan was playing his keyboard and Christopher is watching TV.

White with black and banners and badges

To start with, I have no badges ,however I made one using a round journaling tag and a metal #2.
White with one this month asked for black plus banners and badges.
The banners are a Kaisercraft stamp named Fine and Sunny.
I've used washi tape to define my edges and smiled about the bunnies on here as the photo was from  country ,NSW where I'm sure there would be a plethora.
The journaling tags and bicycle are from "October Afternoon", 5 and dime.

Feeling Sketchy? Challenge No 60.

This is a fabulous sketch at Feeling sketchy this week.It involves using 4 different ribbons and if you are like me you will have plenty.
I decided to go Christmassy this time.

So here's an old fashioned Santa with a little girl.

Using holiday paper in a non-holiday way @ Counterfeit Kits.

The title explains it!
I've used Valentine's Day paper to scrap  photos of my mother's best friend who I went to visit recently. With her are her daughter and the dog, Axel.

The vellum pocket contains the journaling card from October Afternoon and the flower cluster is also October afternoon.Most of what's on here is in this month's Counterfeit Kit, though I am running low.

Counterfeit Kit challenge #2 Inspired by a childrens book

Here's a layout I'm proud of. When my daughter bought red sparkly chucks I immediately thought of the Wizard of Oz. It is one of my favourite books (and movies).
I used blue gingham along the bottom of the layout with white ric-rac. I clustered flowers above that. Above the photo I've mosaicked gold cardboard(each one inked) as the yellow brick road. I hand pieced the scarecrow, tin man and traced over the lion adding a mane and toto doodling his fur. Finally, I used green strips  to represent the Emerald city.
I'm proud to say that this has been published.

Grungy /arty at Scrap the boys

This month's challenge at Scrap the Boys was arty/grungy style.

My layout started with background paper I thought I'd never use.
This is my nephew who has been car mad since he stood on the front seat of his dad's car when he was 2 saying "broom,broooom".He grew up to become a truck driver and also has qualifications as a driving instructor. In his case ,we saw it coming.

I started by painting white acrylic around where the photo would go. I've overlayed a mask of cogs using black ink, purposely smudging some on the edge of the photo. I zigzagged it in place. Washi tape  and brads underneath and a rub on saying MAN completed that area.
There is another rub on of a truck above the photo plus some metal screws.
My journaling tag was made by misting rust colour over a punched kraft shape. It sits above another mask of chevrons.
Finally, I put my title along the edge of the road.

Colour me scrappy #38

I followed Mary Bennetts to a new blog challenge site for me, named "Colour me scrappy".
The challenge was to use this palette

and the other criteria was paints and mists.
This colour scheme is right up my alley as my 3 favourite colours are blue, yellow and green.

I started with paper named "summer damask". First, I painted a wash using white acrylic paint.
Next, I used a canvas leaf as a mask and misted using turquoise over the white on top left and bottom right.
Then I matted my photo and used strips of paper under it. From these I hung my journaling tag with a brad.
In the bottom left corner I've used 2 washi tapes and a strip of paper to match my tag.
Over the top I placed a dragonfly fussy cut from another sheet of paper. I gave it eyes and a body using brads.
I placed my canvas branch(misted) across the top of the layout and added my heading.
The ponds in the photo were full of golden koi, you can't see them.

Stuck on U card sketch

While I'm on Stuck on U I've decided to do the card sketch as well.



I've completed this one using Annabelle stamps "Thinking of You" stamp and lots of punched flowers.

Stuck on U sketches layout

The sketch over at Stuck on U sketches was an interesting one.


It took me a while to find papers  that would work on this. I'm pleased to be able to use some of my ribbon stash. I kept it subtle.
Here's my layout

Driving home from Canberra one morning I noticed fog hanging over Lake George.

The photo came out very atmospheric.

I've used October Afternoon and MME papers which match nicely. Then I've chosen 3 ribbons as the strips across it. I didn't have any grey. The thinnest ribbon was also used to make a bow on the photo and a small rosette at the top. The aqua lace has a buckle under the photo. I chose the alphas to match rather than contrast. The dots under the photo are from the thickers and finally I added 2 smokey grey buttons.

Getting arty at Scrapfriends

The style of scrapping at Scrapfriends seems to be very arty with paint dribbles and layering.
The sketch this month called for that style. Here it is

my interpretation is about my daughter's artistic streak.
The screen in the photo lives in the corner of her sewing room. Next to it is her easel featuring one of her favourite paintings. On/over the screen are her artworks and a favourite shawl. The whole essence of the way she sees her world is there!

I started with Madame Boutique paper from Kaisecraft,then covered over 2 quadrants and misted with Tattered Angels Sugar maple.

Next, I matted the photo on purple and added the title below it using a mix of alphas.Keeping to the purple & black colour scheme I've added other elements such as heart rubons, printed black circles using paint, washi tape of a tape measure(sewing),journaling blocks, a black doiley and brads.

The white buckle shape is for contrast but also extends the pattern of the painting in the photo.

The added challenge is curves.
Here's my take on the challenge. I've gone with the curves and not so much the stripes. It is open to your interpretation. You can do a layout or a card. Do join in. It is fun!

Christmas with Mum at SWAT

Sketches with a twist required a photo with Mum.
These were her last Christmas before she died. They were taken at the nursing home Christmas concert and she wore her "special occasion " dress which I remember fondly.Very special memories!

and here's my take on it.

I've used Kaisercraft's "Twig and berry" collection as my strip down the LHS and as the garland across the top. I lightly misted around the two photos in green.

Purple Pumpkin sketch challenge

Here's the sketch.

I haven't entered Purple Pumpkin's challenges for a few month because apart from some twine, I thought I didn't have any of their items. Then a wonderful Layout by Helen Tilbury on the site reminded me about these tickets. I can't put Helen's layout on here because computer won't allow me to but here is the link to her layout. http://purplepumpkincrafts.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/helens-take-on-may-sketch.html
I've used her idea of putting the tickets around the circle. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery).

The paper I used is Kaisercraft's "Lush". The colours matched the tickets quite well plus I wanted a happy ,bright layout.
I've used 2 doileys from Typo and 3 strips of Imaginisce "Apple cider "papers. Around the middle paper I wrapped some Purple Pumpkin Twine.
The bambi button could also be Purple Pumpkin since it was given to me.
I punched flowers to go around this button and added some October Afternoon ducks to the left, to keep up the animal theme.
I love going to the Royal Easter show and my favourites have always been the baby pigs. This year I was rather taken by the alpacas as well, hence this layout.
