Let's get sketchy Week 4 October

Noordwijk was the birthplace of my father's grandfather.
When we went to The Netherlands I wanted to go there.
On arrival at the long beach on the North Sea we discovered it was the Red Bull air race day.
There were people everywhere and planes of all descriptions flying overhead, including WW2 spitfires.
How lucky were we!
Because of all that, this place has a special memory for me.

I've used an American craft's kit named Better together, which has a modern vibe.
It isn't at all beach-like,but I like the layout anyway.

Shopping our stash and Merry Monday

The challenge at Shopping our stash this week is to use 3 trees (or more).
I've made another Christmas card using stamped trees, pearls and a washi tape border.

Over at Merry Monday they want birds on Christmas cards.
Here's my card

I haven't put a sentiment on this as the background paper says Merry Christmas several times.

Cat blog hop and Daring Cardmakers

http://herpeacefulgarden.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-2016-cat-lovers-hop-is-here.html

One of the things you may not know about me is that I love cats.
I have owned several in my life including my last one Tuppence
She died at the age of 17 in 2008. I haven't got another one since as I travel quite  frequently.
(I will eventually)

The idea is to link up a layout that has been done of a cat.(Including lion, tiger etc)
This layout is about a scrap friend's cat named Lotus.
She was sitting on a chair watching us scrap so I came up with the title, "Lotus position"
I've put the photo on a skew to get the cat straight.(Hope you understand that).

This morning I also made a card featuring a round tag for Daring Cardmakers

Counterfeit Kit October blog hop.

Hello and welcome to the October CKC blog hop.

I chose to do Challenge #3 Playing dress up.
We were asked to add something extra.
I've used stitching to form the mountains on this layout.

While in Saltzberg we attended a performance of the Sound of Music tunes then went outside and had photos taken on the same hill as in the movie.
I added more fun by adding a flag and a hot air balloon.

Here's the order for the Blog Hop (you don't have to include the list in your post but you must link to the person below you in the list):

Thank you for joining in this month and remember we always love to see what you can do.

Whimsical musings #231 and In the pink

The challenge for #231 at Whimsical Musings is to be inspired by flamingos.

I had some small pieces of flamingo paper from kaisercraft,so I made 2 cards.
The bling on the left reminded me of a bird's tail (a lyrebird maybe) and the little pink bows on the right card reminded me of birds wings.

I'm entering the right hand one on In the Pink where they want ribbons and/or bows.

I'm off to a craft camp this weekend so hope to make lots more cards to sell there.

Mystical 4 photos challenge

Over at Mystical Scrapbooks the 2nd October challenge is to use 4 photos on a layout.
These 3 photos are of the religious artifacts at Melk Abbey plus an outside view.

Stift melk 001.jpg

We visited there while on our boat cruise.

I used a neutral background paper with brown for my matting.
The top strips of golden yellow match the exterior of the abbey.
I've used a wood veneer which has been gilded with inca gold.
Finally, a quote as my title.

Mojo Monday #470 and Li'l red wagon

You will have noticed by now that I've stopped using my counterfeit kit for this month...I finished early.
There is one more layout to come in our blog hop on 24th.
Why not come back then.

Today's card is for Mojo Monday.
I've used apricot, orange and fawn.
My embellishments are silver.......an unusual combination, but it works.

I stamped the sentiment and the scroll pattern on the background.
(I need to use my stamps more)
The large silver flower brad sets it off don't you think?
It came with matching rhinestones, which are above "birthday"

Here is the original sketch

Over at  http://lilredwagon.blogspot.com.au/ the theme is Let's party.
I've made a birthday card using cupcakes (a necessary ingredient at Birthday parties)
To that I added a pink border strip and rosebuds as well as my stamped sentiment.

2 Christmas cards

My first card is for Merry Monday. They want plaid.
I've made a smaller sized card which is landscape ,so opens on the right of this picture.
I used 2 co-ordinating papers and a sentiment.

The next one is for  Christmas card Challenges where you are asked to add a decoration.
I've used an assortment of papers on here. (Why not? It is Christmas) :)

Through the craft room door.

http://ttcrd.blogspot.com.au/ are having an Anything goes challenge.

I've made this card by fussy cutting around the roller skating boot image, including the feathers and swirls. I added a paper doiley and 3 silver enamel dots.
I particularly like the quote.
The card would be for a variety of purposes.

Jingle Belles

At Jingle Belles they are asking for pink Christmas cards.
I've used the other part of that lumpy white handmade paper I used on the last card plus a touchy feely suede paper featuring pink swirls.
The NOEL wood veneer sentiment I painted to match.

Feeling Sketchy and ABC challenge

Sketch #155

This is the most recent sketch at Feeling Sketchy.
I'm attending a 70th birthday celebration soon and know the man involved will appreciate the joke.

And at ABC challenge the criteria is Red ribbon and reindeer

I'm also adding it on ABC Christmas challenge where Under the pile is the criteria.
I've been hoarding that Christmas ribbon for a few years now and am trying to use it up.

Send a smile4kids challenge

http://sendasmile4kidschallenge.blogspot.com.au/ wants a birthday card or any celebration for kids.
There's another Graphic45 image on this card.
The Wizard of Oz is an all time favourite.
I've used a bigger picture plus 2 smaller ones which are mounted on foam tape.
I'm sure a 5 year old would love it.

Cardz4Guyz and Auld Sentiments

The challenge at Cardz4guyz is time and at AULD sentiments it is vintage.
I've used a rust coloured cardstock then fussy cut a curiosity cupboard, featuring clocks, from a Graphic 45 paper.
I finished off with a wood veneer crest where they person sending this card could write the age of the recipient.

Mystical October Challenge

There is a grid at Mystical scrapbooks this month.
I've gone diagonally and chosen paint, wood veneer and Jumbo letters.

This was at a market in Alkmaar Holland and the produce was extremely fresh.
The flowers were delightful.
The paint is on the background flowers (see Forgeries on the Fourth post)
The wood veneer camera is bottom right.

Challenge #2 Inspired by woodland creatures

The challenge at CKC is to be inspired by woodland.

In Germany I visited the Steiff shop and while there I bought a small Steiff animal for my daughter's 30th Birthday on 18th.
My friend took my photo outside the shop.
Inside it was a treasure trove of various animals in "scenes". One of them was woodland creatures.
My layout is about that visit.

I used mulberry paper as a furry edge for my photo plus some fussy cut tree stumps as well as random flowers, and a butterfly. You might see these in the forest.

Challenge #2 Candy corn colour balance

CHALLENGE TWO: Candy Corn Color Balance
The astrological sign for most of the month of October is Libra, symbolized by a scale. The second challenge this month is to keep your project's color scale balanced. An easy way to attain color balance is the gallon-quart-pint strategy, but you can also think of a piece of candy corn, which is my particular preference at this time of year! Use one color for the majority of your project (the gallon or the orange part of the candy corn), another color for a smaller part of your project (the quart or the yellow part of the candy corn) and one color for a tiny part of your project (the pint or the white part of the candy corn). You can find an explanation and sample layout here:
http://www.clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/blogs/tip-of-the-week/archive/2010/08/10/the-gallon-quart-pint-rule-for-design.aspx

My gallon is white, my quart is medium blue and my pint is dark blue.
I've used one of the papers I counterfeited.
Hidden under the mat behind those 2 photos is................the dinosaur!
I've also used a journaling card, brad and washi tape for the dark blue.
The lighter blue appears in the washi tape as well plus the paint on the background.

Whimsical Musings #232 Be inspired by your signature technique.

On our trip we had a special treat in Vienna.
We visited Palais Lichtenstein for a musical concert which featured "The Blue Danube" waltz with two ballet dancers.
Here's a link to a website about the Palace
https://www.palaisliechtenstein.com/en/home.html

The main idea behind it is there can never be too much ornateness. The room where we were definitely featured it. That is what this layout is about.
I've used gold shimmery cardstock and created a pocket page. I'll put the program from the night in there. The yellow floral paper from my kit could be a wallpaper from one of the rooms. They had a penchant for yellow.

I've followed one of scrapbooking's main principles :"Less is best" Focus on the photos.
This is my signature technique.
So there are minimal embellishments. I'm so pleased to use the gold tassel on this though.

Christmas Card Challenges & Cards in Envy

I'm taking a break from layouts today and making some more cards.
At Christmas Card challenges they want Christmas Decorations.
This large wooden shape was found last year in a clearance bin and I knew it would work on a card. Voila!

Also on Cards in Envy they want us to FRAME IT.
So I've created a similar card using a silver frame and another (thin) wood veneer.

NB: I'm having trouble getting linkitz to work on other sites.
I've done a rebuild and can't understand why this has happened.
Apologies to all challenge site owners.

Scrap it with a song.

At Scrap it with a song they are using the song "Dark necessity" by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
I've chosen the line "darkness helps us all to shine" and I'm using the 2 first words.

I've used a paper from my Counterfeit Kit that I forged. I did the washi tapes and sprinkled water colour myself. Yes I know the washi is crooked, it is meant to be.
I've used layering behind my photo to add more skew angles. With all that going on the embellishments are minimal. I'm pleased to get a tassel on there.

This liberty bridge is famous in Budapest,
Image result for bridge in budapest

As we cruised down the Danube on our last night I took the photo.

Whimsical Musings #228 Growing things.

Using another counterfeit paper and a red doiley as a basis, I created a layout about the Greek locals on Symi growing plants in old Fetta cheese cans and trying to sell them.
I'm pleased because I used a few oddments from my kit on here.

Shopping our stash and Cardz4Guyz

The challenge at Shopping our stash is birds and at Cardz4guyz is nature.
I'm combining the two with this peacock card for a man.
The picture was cut from an old children's book I owned.
The background was done using Kaisercraft mist and mask. Sentiment is stamped.

Feeling Sketchy and Lessology

At Feeling Sketchy there is a card sketch

and at Lessology they ask us to use music, plus an upcycled item.

My card is made from a pantyhose packet with photocopied music (recycled) as my background paper.
It can be seen on the LHS.
I've chosen blues and greys mainly as I'm using it to congratulate a boy who has just done well in exams.
I inked around the edges and used fine black lines to define each chunk of paper.

For some reason it "curved" in the scanner, no idea why!

Sketch "n"scrap

I thoroughly enjoyed my morning swim at the famous Budapest Thermal Baths.
They are world famous for their healing properties but I must say, I didn't feel any different after leaving there.

For my layout I chose a busy navy paper with ornate patterns on it. After doing the border strips, I've added the tassels that I made. I thought they reminded me of beach towels.
The 3 rhinestone bling pieces remind me of water splashes.
I hope my layout has that gypsy and watery feel about it.

October forgeries on the fourth

This month's kit lent itself to forgeries.
These are the papers I have forged.
For the floral on the left I used 2 masks I own, one is a water lily the other is a daisy style flower cluster.

For the paper on the right I've used BLUE paint and reproduced the circles with a thick paintbrush.

I'm not including the one on the left.
For the lemon slice one I simply stamped the images using half a lemon.

I used a yellow wash afterwards to replicate the tinting.

For the yellow on the left, I used an October afternoon paper.
For the squares on the right I first washed blue over the paper then stamped over with a black verso square ink pad.

The one on the left was made using 3 washi tapes a little yellow paint and a watery splash with blue.

I splattered blue paint to create the paper on the right.

For the left one I've cut up 3 sheets of striped 8x8 paper then made a crazy quilt by gluing them on a background.

Look at my forgeries! They may not be as "professional" but they achieve the same ends.
Paired with the other papers I'm sure they will work out fine.
