November Counterfeit Kit

Welcome blog hoppers and assorted visitors.

Our November Kit is based on Jenni Bowlin October Kit with add ons.
Here it is http://www.jbsmercantile.com/eco/store.asp?SID=1&Item=2644
The papers look like this
and here are mine. As it is mainly browns and greys, I've called it......................

                                        THE HOBO KIT

     The papers
More smaller papers and clocks on paper.
Then the alphas
And finally the embellishments. I pulled apart an old picture dictionary, so I've added lots of brown & grey as well as orange things, including animals.

There are also some ribbons and orange chevron bags plus heaps of tags.
I have an idea for the tags which will appear later this month.

THEN
There was an add on kit for Jenni Bowlin featuring Halloween

So I made a Halloween mini kit as well
I couldn't find a spider anywhere so I put a green cockroach/beetle thing in the web with jiggly eyes. I think it is scary! Many people find clowns scary too which is why he is there.

And for something completely different, I found an old red indian outfit from when I was a kid.
I have photographed it so now plan to cut it up and use the hessian.
I'll bet you won't see another of those on the blog hop!!!

More cards ,one for gold challenge.

Counterfeit Kits had a gold challenge this month.
I don't have much gold, but in the process of making cards I managed to find gold washi tape and a gold button, so I used them here.
There's actually 2 cards cut from one sheet of Silent Night Christmas paper from Kaisercraft.
The first (gold) card has also a tag from Kaisercraft December 25th Collection.
The second card had twine tied across it.
My scanner is being temperamental again so excuse any blue stripes you think that are there.

A reindeer at Jingle Belles

This 2 weeks challenge at Jingle Belles is to use a creature.
Of course because Christmas is fast approaching, I'm making Christmas cards.

This one features a reindeer. I've punched a border on the bottom and used a sticker doiley under my sentiment circle.
It is for a friend who I started school with 55 years ago.
We still see each other at least once a year, despite her living about an hours drive away.

Mojo Monday #317

Here is the sketch for Mojo Monday.
I'm madly working on Christmas cards as it is only 8 weeks until Christmas.
I've used Kaisercraft papers and an Annabelle Stamp that says "From me to you".
There is some silver washi tape to add some sparkle.

The greens on this are actually more of a bottle green. The scanner has made them look lime.

Stuck on U sketches

http://stuckonusketches.blogspot.com.au/ is hosting this sketch challenge.
The sketch appealed to me as I had a circular paper from Ruby Rock-it that I wanted to use.
First I cut the centre out of the circle using my craft knife.

On the green background paper I've used distress ink through a Prima mask to create dots.
Then I've placed a combination of green & purple items, including ribbon & ricrac.
The tag was one of  I made shown here

They feature mauve coloured Prima roses plus stamped butterflies etc.
The black & white roses are lace stickers from Merci stuck on black background.

One layer Wednesday and orange.

http://snippets-karen.blogspot.ca/2013/10/olw163-orange-you-glad-you-played-along.html
Here is the link to One Layer Wednesday.
This week the challenge is to use orange.
My cards are currently a peachy colour so this suited perfectly. First I stamped Happy Birthday.
Next I've used a glittery orange frame around the sentiment and underneath is an orange worm with googly eyes.
The lines across this card are from my scanner. They're not on the card.

A challenge involving cows

In a town in Western Australia there are 42 fibreglass cows decorating the main street.

This one, next to the postbox meant red/black & white.I've used lots of washi tape and cowprint ribbon. There is a bit of stitching on there also.
It is for a sketch challenge at Soul Scrappers.

All comments are read and appreciated!

Color me scrappy with feathers

This layout is for Color me scrappy
As I didn't have any real feathers and can't chase a bird, I made a paper feather. It is on the lady's hair. It is misted with red which unfortunately dribbled, so let's say it is a red feather!
Whenever I see a circus,I always think of this poem by CJ Dennis.

Hey, there!  Hoop-la! the circus is in town!
Have you seen the elephant?  Have you seen the clown?
Have you seen the dappled horse gallop round the ring?
Have you seen the acrobats on the dizzy swing?
Have you seen the tumbling men tumble up and down?
Hoop-la!  Hoop-la! the circus is in town!

Hey, there!  Hoop-la!  Here's the circus troupe!
Here's the educated, dog jumping through the hoop.
See the lady Blondin with the parasol and fan,
The lad upon the ladder and the india-rubber man.
See the joyful juggler and the boy who loops the loop.
Hey!  Hey!  Hey!  Hey!  Here's the circus troupe!

I used to teach it to classes for dramatic presentations.
On my layout I started with 8x8 paper by Merci Carnival. After matting my photo under the poem I found a clown picture in the same pack. The word "Laughter" has been on my scrap desk for ages. Then on went the pennants, stars, washi tape, journalling block . Finally I added the lady which is an embossed wedding stamp. I cut off the veil and added the feather and scrap paper lace on her skirt.
Rhinestones completed the picture.

Alexandra's challenge at Get Creative & Crafty Hazelnut's challenge.

After reading further the Get Creative website is having 12 card challenges.
 This really appeals!!!
So here is my take for Alexandra's challenge-to use patterned paper.
It is also a requirement on Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge to use music

I cut the picture of the carollers from an old story book.
The music is a stamp and the Carol sentiment is using up some alphas I've had for ages.

I've double dipped so hope that is okay on both sites.

Get creative at Crafty Croppers.Layered card.

Another site I have been aware of for some time but haven't entered anything up until now is Get Creative, based in Greece.
 http://craftycroppersgr.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/october-1st-irinis-challenge.html
The challenge at the moment is to make a card with lots of layers.
I'm trying to get all my Christmas cards done, so this suited me.

I've used both sides of a kaisercraft paper and a matching tag from the December 25th collection.
In between, there is a paper doiley cut to size and a rub on sentiment on another Kaisercraft paper.
I've added some sparkle by using 2 strips of red washi tape.

Sieze the Birthday

Another open challenge at Seize the Birthday this week, so I'm using up leftover papers and a canvas flower. I've stamped the sentiment and added rhinestones to the leaves. There's a few greens there, but I think it works.
This card will go into my birthday card stash.

case this sketch #51

And my interpretation
I turned it landscape then used music as my backing paper. Think of it as the postage stamp.
My line of stockings are the plane and the "Ho Ho Ho!" is the sentiment. This card will be going to a musical friend for Christmas greetings.

Sketches with a twist-Join in this month.

Here is the sketch and the twist is to use PINK for breast cancer awareness month.

The link to the site is http://sketcheswithatwist.blogspot.com.au/ and you have until 27th November.

Here's my example

So join in the fun! You might win!!!

Let's capture our memories #42

The above sketch has been used to make this layout below.
It features pink/purple and grey combo plus a combo of letters left over from various kits.(I'm on aa mission to use up my hoard!).There is also washi tape and lace on there, plus the purple paper is glittery as well as the blue alphas.
The Freemantle markets had things to see everywhere, including on the ceiling. It was full of dried flowers in upside down boxes and paper balls. I just had to take some photos.
The layout is called people what is up?(I had no e in my alphas.).

Mojo Monday #316

Here is the sketch for Mojo Monday.
I'm using up scraps from my October Counterfeit kit and this one was perfect! The papers are ideal sizes and colourscheme.
First, I cut the dotted background paper to size, then I used Luxe by Pink Paislee rubons in silver across the blue vellum. I didn't use the ribbon since rubons do the same job.
I had a card decorative paisley shape which colour co-ordinated so that is where the circle is.
Then I stamped Congratulations on pastel pink paper,(also dotted) and made the matching flags.
Here it is

10 minute dash with red, olive and turquoise.

http://prettypinkposh.com/category/craft-dash This is a newer card making challenge site I have found and the theme this week is CD_28to use these colours in under 10 minutes to make a card.
Using the timer on my computer, I started at 10 '01.
First I found a scrap of turquoise paper with playing card symbols. Next I found Echo Park "Everyday hero" paper which also had strips along the bottom to use including an olive green border strip.
I cut my paper and assembled.Time completed 10.08 so 7 minutes.
Keeping it plain, here it is
I've just had a brilliant idea....Sydney has been having severe bushfires this week, so I'm writing a thank you note and dropping it up to the local fire station.
This card sums up our heartfelt thanks to our firefighters.

JIngle belles but I missed the close.

The challenge at Jingle belles was to use pink on a Christmas card as they were fundraising for a cancer cause.
I made this card last night and meant to upload it. When I looked this morning the collection is closed :(
Never mind, here it is anyway. I've used a chipboard gift painted bright pink, from Buzz and bloom.
I love the quote too.

Flutterby Wednesdays #258

The challenge this week at Flutterby Wednesdays is to make a card NOT USING ORANGE AND BLACK.
I've gone nowhere near that.
My card is mainly in blues and greens, and before you say they're black checks... they are not. The navy came up as black on the scanner.
I've made it for a little boy using a dinosaur and a butterfly.
It could be a birthday card or even for a newborn boy.

2 broke girls sketch challenge meets Lollipop Ladies

Here's the sketch
and the theme at Lollipop ladies where I am a DT member is cookie monster cupcakes.
So I combined the two.
I turned the sketch 90 degrees to the right.
My layout for Lollipop Ladies is not a contest for me.
This is my demonstration or motivational layout. So I'm not breaking any rules for 2 Broke girls.

With all that sorted out here is my layout featuring my nephew's dog,Honey.
She found a child's cookie monster toy and formed an attachment to it. She gently carried it from room to room with her. Maybe she thought it was another dog.

And before anyone tells me, yes I know it slopes down.
Unfortunately the letters can't be repositioned so there they stay.
I've used Pink Paislee silver rub-ons, a MME tag, American crafts thickers, plus graphic 45 sticker letters.
I added some Kaisercraft bling.

Orange, brown and green at Use your stuff

I've had these 6x6 papers for ages and decided it was time to use them.
I made a 4 photo layout featuring my parents and daughter when we visited the Hunter Valley in NSW for a holiday.
I've added a tag I made plus rubons as a title and metallic green brads.
Thank you USE YOUR STUFF for inspiring me.
The bottom right card is a greyish brown.

Archiscraps call out.

http://archiscraps.blogspot.com.au/ needs you!
Here is the stimulus picture for this month
We would love to see more entries and the extra criteria is a face or faces, either in your photo or as an embellishment.
So come on and join in the fun.

Sunday, 20 October 2013

A holiday layout just for fun....although it wasn't really !

On my recent trip to W.A. I went on the suspension bridge above the giant tingle trees.
I was quite scared, but my friend convinced me it would be okay, and it was.
After coming off it, they presented me with a certificate for completing it.
I've used the certificate plus ticket from the adventure on my layout.
I've also used 2 owls from Memory maze, plus a pennant made from tags joined with ribbon cut from a top I bought recently.(You know those annoying loops near the neckline.)

Color throwdown #264

The colours of color throwdown this week have inspired me to use some more items from my counterfeit kit.
I began with a coral coloured card then added book paper, strips of patterned paper then 2 stars.
One is coral and aqua and the other I've inked with silver.
On the silver star I've added rhinestones and down the navy strip I've added my sentiment, "Wishes", using mini alphas.

Ruby's Rainbow buttons on cards challenge.

At Ruby's Rainbow there is a challenge to use buttons.
I had several scraps on my desk already so I decided to make a card using those colours. The background is book paper then I've added grey, black, tomato red and yellow, plus a brown and black button.

Stuck?! mid month sketch

Here is the new sketch at Stuck?!

I've chosen to keep mine fairly plain as it features metal sculptures from Hyden in Western Australia.
I've used 2 A2Z scraplets barbed wire strips which I misted with 'sugar maple".
The background paper is named parched earth and that well describes the countryside around Hyden.
There are kilometres of red dirt.
One man has made these sculptures his life's work. They are amazing and comical as well.
My alphas are Graphic 45 and the journaling block is MME.

I've photographed this outside but it is quite hazy today from nearby bushfires and a factory fire with tyres burnt.
Hope all my friends are safe during this worrying time.

Let's get shabby with buttons

I think I was channelling my inner "Mary Poppins" with this card.
I've gone all candy striped pink.
My card has striped patterned paper and silver striped ribbon with a vintage feel. I've also used a circle of paper doiley cut from a previous challenge (look below)
Then I've stitched 4 white buttons with pink thread and finally used a commercially printed tag saying "I love you so much". This could be an early valentines day card or just for someone very girly.
I hope the "Let's get shabby" people like it.

And while I'm on pink and white, don't forget the Lollipop Ladies challenge of jubes which closes soon.

Flutterby Wednesday #257

I always enjoy doiung Flutterby Wednesday's challenges and this one was no exception.
The sketch is this one

And using some spotty paper, the centre part of a paper doiley and a fairy cut from an old storybook,I made this card.

A young neighbour is turning 4 soon so this will be used for her.
