The photo was taken in 1915 and was in Egypt in front of the Sphynx.
He is the soldier on the left.
This photo is featured in the Ausralian War memorial in Canberra as part of a display about the Egyptian campaign. I took the photo through glass of the original. This means it is very slightly blurry.
Here is the picture for Scrap around the world
I was inspired initially by the sand.
I've also added on the layout a journaling block featuring a bicycle, map paper and the words explore and dream.
The aged colour scheme encouraged me to use neutrals on this as well.
I started with a My Minds Eye paper from my COUNTERFEIT KIT, plus the bicycle journaling block, the balloon, the mini envelope and the 2 tiny postcards by EK Nostalgiques,The attic collection.
Here's a close up of the mini envelope I made with the postcard inside. The other postcard is bottom right tied around with cotton.
I've added 2 arrows, one identifies grandad. I also added a circular sticker to write the date in and a typewriter from the age.
The mosaic pattern at the bottom of this paper also reminded me of Egyptian mosques.
I didn't use mixed media on this as I felt it was busy enough.
