For my blog post I'm doing challenge #3 and am altering some chipboard using rusting powder.
This is especially suitable for cogs on male pages or scrolled iron work on buildings.
I've chosen some corner flourishes.
It is a messy and fun business.
First you paint your raw chipboard with mod podge.
Next you sprinkle rusting powder. (I bought it at a scrapbook show but I'm sure good stores will have it.(That's rusting powder on the right)
Next you spritz it with vinegar and leave to dry overnight,or for at least a few hours. The dryer the better!
When it is dry you brush off the residue. (I used an old toothbrush)
Hey presto! Rusty chipboard.
Here is my layout using the results.
(The faux stitching goes all the way around)
It is based on this sketch from Let's capture our memories

Cool technique! Thanks for sharing. It looks great on the woodgrain paper also!
I have never heard of rusting powder before but I really like how it looks and it's perfect for that photo! Thanks for the tutorial on using it.
Nice take on the challenge and the sketch. Add me to the list never having heard of rusting powder except from you.
I LOVE this product! It looks like it left the perfect effect on those pretty chippy pieces, which work really well to frame your photo. You've managed to create a windswept look on your page which suits it.
Beautiful layout :) An interesting product too will have to check that out the nest time I'm at the scrap store
Great effect - go you! Looks great as ornate photo corner. You are so brave to try these techniques! I'd be rusting up all sorts of things that shouldn't be :-)
That is a stunning technique, which I will have to try some day! Gorgeous page!
That is so awesome!!! I've never heard of rusting powder, but it sure looks realistic - incredible!
Ooooo I must try this technique one day.. Thanks for sharing. Loved the layout!
That faded Woodgrain is the perfect background paper and then the Flores pretty it up.
Such a fab idea. they actually look rusted! I need to get my chipboard out and have a play. Thanks for the inspiration x
